Tornadoes hold Pillars in Kano

Kano Pillars faltered again in the presence of a mammoth crowd at the Sanni Abacha stadium with a 1-1 draw against Niger Tornadoes of Minna in the last matchday 13 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Andrew Ikefe put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute by tapping home Ibrahim Babawo’s corner kick while Junior Lokosa scored Pillars’ equalizer from the spot, ten minutes before time to mark his 11th goal of the season.

Sai Masu Gida were pepped up for the game and they knew a victory would take them to the top of the table but they only managed a shot on target from eleven attempts in the first forty five minutes.

They paid the price for their complacency before the half hour mark as Andrew Ikefe tapped home a Ibrahim Babawo corner kick to silence the home fans.

Kano Pillars however mounted more pressure after the break but Tornadoes held on as Mustapha Aliko in goal for Tornadoes denied Ibrahim Alhassan and Rabiu Ali.

The much needed equalizer then came in the 80th minute following a handball by Austin Igenepo. Referee Grema Mohammed did not hesitate to point to the spot and Junior Lokosa sent Mustapha Aliko the wrong way with his spot kick for his 11th goal of the season.

Alhasan Ibrahim attempted a last minute shot from the edge of the box but his attempt went inches wide and it finished all square.
