Ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper, Emmanuel Babayaro has made bold claims that
goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa does not seem to fit into super Eagles German
coach Gernot Rohr’s plans.
Babayaro also pointed out that some powers in the football circle might be
forcing the FC Ifeanyi Uba safe hands on the national team coach.
“Look we know how this country (Nigeria) works, It’s crystal clear Ezenwa
is not the type of goalkepper Rohr likes else he would have given him a chance in one of their games during the goalkeeper crisis”, Babayaro said.
“Ezenwa with all due respect is a good goalkepper in his own right but probably not the type Rohr fancies. Right now, we should be asking to know who is trying to force Ezenwa on Rohr”.
Ezenwa was tipped to man the post for Nigeria in the World Cup qualifier match against Algeria last year when Karl Ikeme the number one goalkeeper was out injured, instead chippa United of South Africa goal tender Daniel Akpeyi was picked by Rohr ahead of the home based goalkeeper.
This was surprising as Akpeyi was only given a last minute invitation and was expected to be a back up.
Again in the friendly match against Senegal last week, Akpeyi arrived hours to the match and was again picked ahead of goalkeeper Ezenwa.
It might not be too difficult to see why Babayaro is suspicious about the
goalkeeping situation in the Super Eagles.
