Shooting Stars general manager, Rasheed Balogun has rejected reports linking their top striker Sunday Faleye to Rivers United.
Reports in the media during the mid-season transfer window suggested that
the ‘revelation of the season’ had pitched tent with another NPFL club side.
Faleye, joined Shooting Stars from a Lagos based non-league side Free Stars
FC and he has scored five goals in his debut season for the Oluyole Warriors in the top flight league.
“We have resumed for business after the short break for the players to go on recess and Faleye has also joined the team from his base,” said Balogun to
Shooting Stars occupy 18th position in the NPFL 20-team table with 22 points after the first round of matches. The Oluyole Warriors will kickoff the second stanza at home against FC Ifeanyi Ubah this weekend.
The team has completed the transfer of about six players during the mid-season transfer window. Jimoh Wasiu made a return from FC Ifeanyi Ubah, while Tayo Adebogun and Ibrahim Salawu joined the Warriors from Enyimba International.
“When the rumours came up in the media, we kept quiet because we are a
professional club. We didn’t receive any bid for Faleye, it makes no sense responding to rumours.
“Faleye has the right to spend his holiday anywhere he likes, if he was spotted in Port Harcourt what is the fuss about that? We have got more serious business than this distraction.
“We are more concerned about the team’s position on the log and we have done some pretty good business in the transfer window. We have also kept our squad intact and added more quality players to the team.
“We are focused and the mandate for us is to ensure we survive relegation.
A big challenge awaits us in the second round and we are optimistic we will
survive the difficulties,” Balogun added.
