Algeria appoints sacked Granada boss as new coach


As the qualification for Russia 2018 world cup gets​ tougher, Super Eagles group opponents desert foxes of Algeria has named former Granada manager Lucas Alcaraz as their new manager.

Alcaraz who was sacked by the Spanish Primera Liga side just 4 days replaces Georges Leekens who left the job after the Algerian national team were knocked out of the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon without recording a single victory.

One of his objective is the task to upstage Nigeria enroute World Cup qualification.

The Desert Foxes are at bottom of their qualifying group with a single point from two matches, five points behind leaders Nigeria. Algeria’s next games in the World Cup is a double header against Zambia.

Super Eagles defeated the desert foxes 3-1 in the last round of matches at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
