Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu returned amongst the goals after almost four months of goal drought in front of goal for FC Midtjylland in their 2-0 win away at AC Horsens in Denmark’s Superligaen match played on Friday night.
The scoreline looked like a routine win for Midtjylland especially as Onuachu opened scores with only 7 minutes after kickoff to return to his early season scoring form since his last strike coincidentally against same opponents – Horsens on 20 October 2017.
The 23-year-old, by virtue of his goal has now registered 10 goals for the 2017/18 campaign from 17 matches played, out of which he has started in 12 of those matches.
He was yellow carded in the 72nd minute for time wasting as he made way for Bozhidar Kraev ,with pressure piling on the visitors.
It was a match dominated by Horsens who had 55% ball possession as against Midtjylland’s 45%. But the vital win for Midtjylland places them firmly on top of the 14-team league table with 47 points from 20 matches, four more ahead of Brøndby with 43 and have played a game less.
Even as much of this story will be about the tall lanky Kanu-figure like Paul Onuachu, we introduce a potential new star in 20-year-old midfielder Frank Onyeka who needed only four minutes after coming on as a late substitute to announce himself with a goal on his debut.
Onyeka who until now has been playing for the U-19 side of Mitdjylland came on as an 86th minute substitute for Janus Drachmann and scored deep into added time.
Midtjylland’s third Nigerian contingent in midfielder Rilwan Hassan is still nursing a long term injury, thus, was not named in the matchday squad.
With six games left to play, Midtjlland are on the brink of emerging champions of Denmark for the 2017/18 season.
