Ahead of the 2018 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season, Abia Angels assistant coach, Chukwu Igwe has assured that his team will be ready on time to face Sunshine Queens in Akure in their opening day fixture.
Speaking to the club’s media department, the coach stated that though the club is still a work in progress, he expects the team to be ready before the NWFL kicks off.
“This is an upcoming team. I expect more from the team as we are not comfortable with the team yet. There is room for improvement.
“Hopefully, before our first match in Akure against Sunshine Queens, we’ll improve and be in top shape,” he said.
The coach also expects the team to make the Super 4 tournament at the end of the season and if possible go as far as the title.
“We expect to be in the super 4, and to play good football. If we make the super 4, then we can target the title,” he concluded.
Abia Angels finished sixth of seven teams in their group last season and have been drawn in group B in the abridged league this season. The top two teams from both groups will make the Super 4 tournament which decides the outright winner.
The Abia State female team is rebuilding after over 24 players left the club in the offseason.
