ABS FC U15 have been crowned champions of the maiden edition of the NPFL U15 Promises tournament after a 3-1 victory over Katsina United in the final game on Saturday at the Soccer Temple, Agege.
Oni Williams put the Saraki Boys into the lead in the opening five minutes but Hussain Mohammed leveled scores for Katsina United in the 26th minute from the spot. The first half ended 1-1.
ABS resumed the second half as the better side, Bello Sufiyan restored ABS FC’s lead just one minute into the half. Sufiyan doubled his team’s lead four minutes later to complete his side’s emphatic victory in the final game.
Niger Tornadoes pipped Rangers International 1-0 in the third place
fixture, Yahaya Abba’s first half beautiful free-kick ensured the Northern side finished third in the tournament.
ABS FC captain, Olusegun Olakunle was voted the Best Player of the
Tournament. He started all the games from the first round in Osogbo.
Rangers International forward, Million Koma emerged as the top scorer of the tournament with 11 goals.
Interestingly, ABS FC won the title with just 12 players. The Saraki Boys
squad was trimmed down to 12 after 14 of their players couldn’t scale through the screening processes in Lagos.
“We got into the difficult situation when majority of our players couldn’t
make it, we thought it was over but the coaches motivated us to give our
best,” said Olakunle to Naijafootballplus.com after the victory.
“We took courage after our first game and we believe we could achieve
success despite the challenges. Honestly, this tournament is huge for us. We have learnt a lot and the adventure is amazing.
“We are happy to emerge as champions, we are excited and proud of
ourselves. We fought for this as a team and we put our commitment into the games. The coaches and our fans are proud of us,” he added.
