Nigerian Beach soccer international and Rangers International FC attacker, Abu Azeez, has expressed his sadness at his team’s defeat and is focused on defeating Kwara United in their next matchday fixture.
Speaking to journalists after the 1-0 defeat to Niger Tornadoes in Minna, the experienced attacker, revealed the team was quite optimistic prior to the game, hence the disappointment.
“I feel sad because Rangers were riding on form prior to this game and we came here with a positive mindset to get at least a draw but unfortunately, this is football and we lost the game,”Azeez said.
“There is nothing we can do about it other than going back home to prepare for our next game.”
He further refused to compare Kwara United with Niger Tornadoes irrespective of the fact that Kwara poached Tornadoes for Obuh’s replacement but stated the team is focus on garnering all three points.
“We know what is at stake and we’ll leave no stone unturned. We don’t care if Abubakar Bala left Tornadoes for Kwara United, all we want to do is to take maximum points.
“We might have avoided this defeat but just like I said before, this is football. We have to leave the loss in Minna and do all we can to secure our three points at home,” he added.
Abu Azeez says despite Rangers’ slow start, the team’s target for a continental place at the end of the season is still intact.
“We have a very long way to go, the NPFL is not even halfway in. Yes we may not have started the season well but at the moment, we’re doing well and that is a motivation as well as an advantage.
“I think by the end of the first round, we will be in a position in which we can beat our chests and say we can challenge for continental places,” Azeez concluded.
Rangers are eight points behind leaders Lobi Stars and will face Kwara United in their next matchday fixture.
