Adeleye Aniyikaye has backed FC Ifeanyi Ubah to win a major piece of silverware by retaining the Aiteo Cup they won last year when the championship begin next month.

The Anambra Warriors were crowned Champions of the oldest football competition in Nigeria last year. They defeated Nasarawa United in a pulsating final at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos.

Aniyikaye has now predicted the Nnewi based side are bound for more glory under the tutelage of Ghanian gaffer, Yaw Preko. He says they will go all out to push for continental slot in the league as they are still in contention for the race.

“The quality of our preparation for the Federation cup is so high. If we can’t clinch the league title this year then we will try as much as possible to retain the federation cup title. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure our return to the continental showpiece next year”, said the defender who’s also featured for Bayelsa United in the past.

“Although, the league title is not over yet and we will continue to fight for it till the end of the season. But I want to win the federation cup (now Aiteo Cup) again. The competition will be so tough this season because it wears a new look and huge money involved now than before.

“Every team would want to win the first edition since the name has been changed and the new structure therein would make the competition more glamorous, celebrated and keenly contested for. We would be glad to win it this year again”, Adeleye told naijafootballplus.com

The former Prime FC of Osogbo defender praised the unity in the dressing room of his side and commended the effort of the coach for bringing stability to the team. He opines that FC Ifeanyi Ubah has become the team to beat in the NPFL.

“We have become a very difficult side to beat in the league, that’s to show that we are improving game by game. The commitment, determination and self confidence imposed on us has been very impressive and if we continue like this we would become an Africa football power house. It’s just a matter of time”, Adeleye boasted.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah are currently 7th on the table with 45 points after thirty games and will play host to Gombe United in one of the week 31 contest on sunday.
