Sunshine Stars striker Adeshina Thomas has urged football fans across the country to remain law abiding and not take part in violence before, during and after games because the consequences are always severe.
The former Prime FC (now Osun United) forward who has now pitched his tent with the Akure gunners condemned the incidents that involved both clubs he loved wholeheartedly in last weekend’s Aiteo cup quarter-final second leg decided at the Otunba Dipo Dina stadium, Ijebu-ode in which Sunshine stars won on 3-2 aggregate.
Adeshina who missed both ties due to injury told naijafootballplus.com that crowd violence at stadia will dissuade fans from coming to watch Nigeria league.
The former Shooting Stars of Ibadan also opined that football is meant to be enjoyed and results should be accepted in good faith, whether at home or away.
“Seriously, I feel bad on the outcome of the game in Ijebu-ode. Both teams are from the same region (Southwest) and this is not supposed to he happening to us. Football is meant to be enjoyed and it shouldn’t be turned into violence. We have three situations in a game and we need to accept the one that comes our way. I condemn the action in Ijebu-ode as both teams are the teams I hold in high esteem.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to both sides to please embrace peace all in the name of sport and race, tribe and ethnicity. This is Yoruba land and let’s always display the true spirit of virtuousness”, Adeshina told NaijaFootballPlus.
Sunshine stars will play in the semi final of the Aiteo Cup this weekend against Akwa United at the Otunba Dipo Dina stadium Ijebu-ode and Akwa United will host the return leg on Wednesday in Uyo.
