AFCON 2019: Onazi to lead Eagles in Uyo

Rumours of owed wages may see Onazi dump Trabzonspor
As the AFCON 2019 qualifying clash between Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa gathers momentum, the Nigeria Football Federation has announced Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder Ogenyi Onazi as interim captain for the game.

Onazi who moved from Italian​ Serie A side Lazio to Turkish Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor last summer has been an integral member of the Super Eagles since the 2013 AFCON triumph.

With Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr’s first choice captain, John Mikel Obi ruled out of the tie against South Africa due to injury, Onazi will lead the Super Eagles out of the tunnel as stand-in Captain.

Nigeria and South Africa will clash in Uyo on Saturday in the first round of qualifying matches in Group E which also have Libya and Seychelles.

Meanwhile, South Africa contingent are expected to arrive in Lagos Wednesday before connecting to the Southern City of Uyo.
