The much awaited 2019 African Cup Of Nations qualifier between Bafana Bafana of South Africa and Nigeria’s Super Eagles ended in a 1-1 draw.
The match which was played at the famous FNB Stadium saw the Super Eagles took an early lead through Samuel Kalu who mesmerized the Bafana Bafana defence before he took a shot which was deflected in by defender Bhule Mkhwanazi.
The Nigeria team scored the second goal which was ruled out by Gambia referee Papa Gassama, that absolutely gave the Bafana Bafana energy to seize the game and score a leveller in the 26th minute through Lebo Mothiba after a nice footwork from Percy Tau and ended the half all square.
The second stanza resumed, with the two teams pressing high up the pitch to notch a winning goal but it was Nigeria that scored again but was again ruled offside.
The emphatic 8-1 away win of Libya in Seychelles increased the tempo of the game especially from the side of South Africa but all their effort to score the winning goal, was debunked by the Nigerian defenders.
The victory ensured Nigeria returns to the African Cup of Nations after missing the last two editions due to non qualification while South Africa will have to wait till the last game against Libya to be sure of their qualification.
