Enyimba International head coach Paul Aigbogun feels elated following his side’s 2-0 away victory over Energie FC in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup second round first leg encounter at the Stade Mathieu Kerekou on Wednesday.
Enyimba took the lead three minutes into the match when Bolarinwa Lawal scored into his own net when he headed past his goalkeeper Damilola Wilson. Austin Oladapo doubled his team’s lead and secured the victory in the 9th minute with a beautiful finish inside the hosts box.
“We played away from home and they (Energie) are not a bad team, we scored two goals and expected they would come out to chase the game for possibility of reducing the deficit,” Aigbogun said to naijafootballplus.com. “We could have scored more and they could have also scored but it was a big win for my team.
“We are happy we won and we are looking forward to the second leg, it will be one game at a time for us. We have to go home and win, complete the double and move on to the next round.”
Super Eagles B midfielder Austin Oladapo scored his first Enyimba goal, he joined the People’s Elephants from Gombe United during the NPFL off season transfer window.
He said: “Great and important win for us, achieving the result away from home makes it perfect for the team. At this level, we must nurture the mindset to win anywhere.
“We are happy, we will build on the momentum and continue working. Second half was a bit tough maybe because we are ahead with two goals but we were able to finish the game strongly. It is not done yet for us, we have to finish the job at home.
“The goal is important to me, my first Enyimba goal. I am excited I have started scoring and adapting to the culture and challenge at Enyimba, I am hoping for more in the future.”
