First leg quarter final matches of the 2017 Aiteo Cup went down yesterday in 3 venues which witnessed 6 goals and all home wins.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah secured the biggest victory on the day as they spanked relegated ABS FC of Ilorin 3-0. 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League top scorer Godwin Obaje scored the opening goal in the 27th minutes from the spot while Mohammed Suleiman added the second just before half-time. Obaje completed his brace in the 71st minutes to put his team one foot in the semi final.
In Lokoja, Niger Tornadoes shocked newly crowned NPFL champions Plateau United 2-0. Ebenezer Odeyemi broke the deadlock in the 59th minute after a goalless first half in a keenly contested encounter and he completed his brace in the 79th minute to put the Jos based team to the sword.
The only surviving Nigeria National League side left in the competition – Osun United proved getting to the quarter final of the Aiteo Cup was no fluke as they edged Sunshine Stars 1-0 despite finishing the match with 10-men.
Tosin Omoyele got the all important goal in the 66th minutes to make sure they go into the second-leg with an advantage.
2nd-leg matches will hold on Saturday 23 September.
Akwa United and Katsina United feeders – the last of the quarter final pairings will be played on Sunday with the return-leg scheduled for three days later.
