AITEO CUP: Upsets staged as Rangers, Lobi Stars crash out


2017 Aiteo cup continues its shelling and humiliation of heavyweights as NPFL reigning champions and 5 times Aiteo cup champions, Rangers International and 2003 Aiteo cup champions, Lobi Stars will join Enyimba, Akwa United at the section for eliminated teams from this year’s
competition while defending champions FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Plateau United progressed.

Unicem Rovers of Calabar, basking in their advantageous home support, squeezed passed Ranger 6-5 on penalties after it ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Lobi Stars were also thrown out through penalty shootout and by underdogs​ Ngwa FC who converted their penalties better to progress 4-3 after regular time ended goalless.

NPFL table toppers, Plateau United managed a 1-0 victory over the
cash-strapped Ede United.

At the festival of goals in Ijebu Ode and Ilorin, where Sunshine stars outscored last year finalists, Nassarawa United 4-2 and Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC and Adamawa United feeders forsaked the prosaic act of defending with ABS scoring 6 to render the visitors 3 goals inconsequential.

In the brotherly clash in Nnewi, FC Ifeanyi Ubah schooled and triumphed over their budding academy, FC Ifeanyi Ubah feeders 2-0.

And in the women’s category, FC Robo, Pelican Stars, Bayelsa Queens, Edo
Queens and Rivers Queens all advanced to the next round of the competition.
