Former Dream team VI striker Junior Ajayi put up a spectacular display on Sunday in a CAF champions league Group D clash between his club Al-Ahly and Wydad Casablanca in Egypt.
In a fiercely contested encounter, Ajayi was a thorn in the flesh of the away team and in the 23rd minute, El-Said’s delightful long ball found Ajayi on the edge of the box whose deft touch and turn gave him space to fire a shot which the keeper saved before Momen Zakaria scored from the close range to give Al Ahly 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Wydad pressed for an equaliser but the defence of the Cairo based team stood firm and in the 65th minute Ali Maaloul’s cross was deflected by a Wydad Casablanca defender unto the path of Junior Ajayi, he made no mistake with a smart finish as he gave the home team a 2-0 lead in front of the delighted fans.
Ahly and Zanaco of Zambia are joint top with 7 points in the group, Wydad is on 3 points while Cottonsports of Cameroon are yet to secure any point.
The newly crowned Egyptian League champions, Al Ahly will next travel to Casablanca Morocco for the second leg on June 21.
