Ajayi on target as Ahly claim 39th crown

Former Dream Team striker Junior Ajayi hits target for Egyptian club Al-Ahly to help them secure the league title for a record 39th time.

In a keenly contested encounter, Maqassa were the better side in the opening stages, until a defensive blunder from winger Paulin Voavy gifted Ahly the lead in the 23rd minute.

Under no pressure, the Malagasy played an ill-fated pass towards the Nigeria forward inside the area, with the Ahly striker easily slotting past the keeper for the opener.

Soliman then doubled Ahly advantage on the rebound following some good work by Ajayi having overcome three Maqassa defenders getting into the area before being eventually thwarted by the keeper.

Maqassa rallied back with goals from El-Sheik and Atwi to end the game 2-2. The Cairo side were officially crowned league champions.
