Rivers United goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande has described the win over Abubakar Bukola Saraki ABS FC as “motivation” for the CAF Confederation Cup campaigners.
Goals from Christian Weli and Godbless Asamoah gave the “Pride of Rivers” a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Saraki boys in a rescheduled week 9 encounter at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Akande who was in goal in the win over the Ilorin based side kept a clean sheet in only his second league start of the season.
In a chat with the former Sunshine stars and Shooting stars safe hand, Abiodun Akande disclosed to naijafootballplus.com that it was a difficult game but he feel elated that his team triumphed over hard fighting ABS FC.
“Thank God for the victory, I am so much happy that we put an end to our winless run but we need to step up our game. This is not the position we want to see ourselves. We must continue to fight till the end. All matches are now difficult to play both home and away and this is making it so tough.
“I believe this win will serve as motivation factor to our next game against Warriors on sunday but myself and my team mates have put the difficult times behind us and if it is necessary to draw blood, we will, in order to improve on our standings”, said to naijafootballplus.com
Akande may likely continue in goal for Rivers United when they welcome Abia Warriors on sunday.
