Former Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala was in blistering form for Oostende as he scored a goal in the cusp of halftime after already providing an assist for the first goal against Standard Liege in a Belgian first division game played on Sunday.
Akpala, 31, seems to roll back the years with impressive performances for Oostende this season. He set up Fernando Matos in the 27th minute before finishing off Richairo Zivkovic’s assist in the 45th minute, but Standard Leige responded immediately after the break with a goal from Renaud Emond five minutes after the restart.
The visitors then completed their comeback when Moussa Djenepo converted in the 65th minute for the equalizer, before Collins Fai turned the game completely on its head with a 72nd minute goal that turned out to be the winner for Standard Liege.
Standard Liege Coach Ricardo Sa Pinto then introduced Super Eagles defender Uche Agbo in the 75th minute to shore up his defense and help secure a memorable win.
Akapla meanwhile ended up on the losing side with Oostende, but will be pleased with his 6th goal of the campaign even though he will feel disappointed with the result.
