Akpeyi says Super Eagles target first African win in Russia

Nigeria will take on Croatia tonight at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Group D second group game of the matchday, while Argentina and Iceland will clash in the first game.

African teams have started the 2018 FIFA World Cup poorly with Egypt losing 1-0 to Uruguay while Iran defeated Morocco 1-0 on Friday at St. Petersburg.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi his optimistic Nigeria will be the first African country to record a win in Russia against Croatia tonight.

“Expectation is high but we are focused and the energy is on a positive vibe in having a good first match,” Akpeyi said to Naijafootballplus.com.

“Two African teams have lost and that won’t have any negative feelings in our camp but to encourage us to know the task ahead is tough and we have to come out stronger in our game.

“We have our target to start well, that will give us confident and hope in the tournament. I am optimistic we’ll record first African win in Russia tonight, we have the quality to achieve it.”

The game will kickoff 8pm Nigeria time.
