Akwa United captain Emmanuel Ariwachukwu has promised fans and Nigerians that Akwa United is still in contention to qualify into the group stages of CAF confederation cup.
Ariwachukwu who spoke at the post match press conference said all hope is not lost yet
“Loosing today (Sunday) does not mean that we are out of the competition, we would go back and put our heads together. Quote me today, we would surprise Hawks of Gambia in Banjul.
The defender dismissed any notion that rainfall contributed to their loss, but rather insisted that the team plays much better on wet pitch
“We can play under any condition, last season we played so many games under the rain and we even play good football when the pitch is wet. So rain didn’t affect us but just a bad day for us”.
The Promise Keepers captain also debunked the report that his team were over confident and that cost them the match but rather said that their opponent were just fortunate
“They were just fortunate, we created a lot of chances but couldn’t score. We loss gallantly and we would put it behind us and forge ahead”.
Akwa United needs to score two goals without conceding when they play the return leg in Banjul on February.
