It was an enthralling NPFL match day 5 fixture at the Nest of Champions, between Akwa Utd and Kwara Utd.
The ‘Promise Keepers’, Akwa Utd Mauled the Harmony Warriors from Kwara. The match had tripartite of goals put past Kwara Utd’s Goalie, Ayalogu Godwin, with, Micheal Ibe, Victor Mbaoma and Ubong Friday getting the goals for Akwa Utd.
Akwa utd were despotic all through 90 minutes of the game, starting from the 5th minute which had an Ubong Friday’s early goal ruled out for offside.
With the unending Duress from the home team, it was on 15 minutes when they got the opener courtesy a Micheal Ibe tap in from an Ubong Friday’s glorious cross from the right flank.
A 7 minutes interval was what Akwa utd needed to get the 2nd, as new Signing Victor Mbaoma rounded the Goalkeeper after a well played Layer Cyril Olisema’s pass.
Kwara Utd had their best chance of the game to put a fight back in the 38th minute.
It was a free kick from Anthoy Wilson that troubled Olorunleke Ojo, the Akwa Goalie, but had it tipped off.
Coach John Obuh tried to change things as he brought on Oseni Kazeem and Odudu Sunday to replace Magaji Issah and Anthony Willson in the 40th minute, but it was a futile change all through the game, with both players having no impact on the score line.
The goal that capped off a wonderul encounter came courtesy of Ubong Friday, who finally scored in the 54th minute from a corner kick.
It could have been more for Akwa, with Ubong Friday having another goal ruled out for offside in the 70th minute.
In the end it’s Abdul Maikaba who was smiling with his boys, after the win which See’s them go top of the NPFL log with 12 points, and a Goal ahead of Champions Plateau United.
For John Obuh’s Kwara Utd, the woes continue as they find themselves rock bottom with 3 points, and need to start picking up good points and efface the memories of such pejorative form.
