Akwa United assistant coach, Aliyu Zubairu says that the backroom staff at the Uyo club are working on improving the team.
According to the coach, Akwa United who are touted as the best footballing team in the NPFL currently, is only a work in progress as there are lots of work being done on the side.
Speaking in midweek, Zubairu started with the effort put into the comeback victory over Heartland in Uyo on Wednesday which felt like a new scenario for them.
“The early goal destabilized the team, and coming from behind felt like a new scenario for us, we got the equaliser and then got back our stability” Aliyu Zubairu said.
He further highlighted a few departments where work is going on in the team.
“Most of our midfielders are immobile, they’re good and we’re working on them to play on one touch basis. We are missing Ifeanyi George but we’ll keep working on what we have.
“Some players are temperamental when their heart rate is higher. We’re working on our players so they can be better footballers. We have a code of conduct which takes care of our players”.
Zubairu insisted goal scoring remains a major headache of most teams in the league and solving it remains one of the biggest accomplishment of any team whatsoever.
“It is a worrisome situation, Goal scoring is a problem for every team. Any team that strikes it right should consider themselves lucky. We’re working on it. Our strikers are not scoring but we still have the best goal difference in the league” he told reporters
The coach also assured supporters of Akwa United that the team will win again on Sunday when they play Abia Warriors.
Akwa United are second on the NPFL table with two games in hand and host Abia Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
