Shooting Stars head coach, Fatai Amoo has described as important his side’s home win against Sunshine Stars.

The Oluyole Warriors piped the Owena Waves 1-0 in Sunday’s NPFL matchday 22 encounter at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Former Sunshine Stars striker, Ibrahim Ajani grabbed the winner in the 7th minute of the game for the Oluyole Warriors to hunt his former club.

Ajani broke the visitors defense and finished off from six yards for the only goal and the winner of the game.

Amoo said the hard fought victory is just a tip of the iceberg of what to expect from his team in the on-going second stanza of the NPFL.

“I’m feeling great, it’s a derby game and we knew about the pedigree of both teams and history of previous matches. The result is important for us and we are happy.

“A relief of pressure, the result would help us and take out many negatives in the team. We have been going through some difficult weeks, honestly it was a tough moments.

“We wanted to win the game and we won, I’m happy the boys fought for this victory. I’m optimistic the derby win would spur us more,” Amoo said to Naijafootballplus.com.

Jimoh Wasiu and Abu Azeez made their debuts in the game. Wasiu who joined Shooting Stars from FC Ifeanyi Ubah replaced Tope Olaifa in the 56th minute while Beach Soccer star Azeez, who got an LMC special waiver to join Shooting over the week came on for Sunday Faleye in the 76th minute.

Wasiu came on and made an immediate impact in the second-half of the game. His shots were on-target five times but Sunshine Stars goalkeeper David Ariyo denied him on several occasions.

“I am happy with the new players performance, I was impressed with their impact. Their inclusion is positives for the team and we are on the right track to bounce out from the relegation zone.

“We are working to blend the team and we need three more matches to make it perfect. They have added quality to the team and we must continue to work on the players cohesion,” he said.

The victory takes the Ibadan based club points haul to 25 after 22 matches, two points behind safety. Shooting Stars will host Kano Pillars on Wednesday in a matchday 23 fixture.

Amoo added; “We must avoid dropping more points at home and it’s important we improve our performance on the road. We need to gain enough points away from home.

“The future is bright for us, we are just two points behind a safe position. We will remain focused and ensure we survive the drop”.
