Atletico Madrid’s Griezmann slapped with two-match ban

The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has slammed Antoine Griezmann with a 2-match ban for hurling vulgar words at a referee after the official denied his team – Atletico Madrid – a penalty in last weekend’s 2-2 away draw at Girona.

He was also struck with a €600 fine, but was given a right to appeal against these verdicts.

Griezmann will miss the home game against Las Palmas and also the trip to Valencia on September 9.

Also hit by the same length of suspension is Sevilla’s Ever Banega who similarly swore at the center referee after he was yellow-carded for a foul during his team’s 1-1 draw against Espanyol on Saturday.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, however, was given a milder 1-match ban after he was brandished his La Liga record-equalling 18th yellow card. He received two yellows in his team’s La Liga campaign curtain raiser against Deportivo La Coruna.

The Former Barcelona starlet, Alan Halilovic was also handed a 1-match ban after he was sent-off for Las Palmas against Valencia.
