Nigerian International and Mainz 05 defender Leo Balogun is looking forward to spending more time on the pitch for the ZeroFivers after being plagued by injuries for the past two seasons.
Balogun only made a combined number of 38 Bundesliga appearances in the last two seasons for Mainz.
Looking forward to the new season, there’s no reason why the Nigeria international, who since his arrival in Germany has found his new sporting home in mainz, shouldn’t feature much more often.
“In Mainz there’s a very special environment, as well as being a pleasant place to work,” noted Balogun, a week before his side’s first competitive encounter of the season against Lüneburger SK Hansa in the DFB Pokal.
“From the first day here, I was welcomed warmly and openly. In Mainz, you see what an atmosphere like this can do over the years. You just feel at home here.
“This special feeling is what ties me to the city and the club,” said the centre-back, whose contract runs out next summer, but an extension isn’t out of the question.
Balogun who has one more year to run on his contract feels there’s no reason why he won’t extend his stay at Mainz.
His excitement to start the new season is tangible: “Mainz 05 will show another side to itself,” he declared. “Everything feels very good.”
