Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun will not be available for selection when Nigeria tackles South Africa next month in an AFCON qualifier match at Uyo.
Balogun sustained an injury while playing for Mainz in the last Bundesliga matchday against Koln, which they lost 2-0.
Balogun, 28, will not recover sufficiently according to an official statement from his club Mainz 05 in Germany.
After undergoing several tests on Tuesday, it was revealed that the defender relied and trusted by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was diagnosed with a muscle fibre tear in the adductor area.
This means the tall light skin defender will miss the games against Corsica on May 26th, Togo (June 1st) and most importantly South Africa on the 10th of June 2017.
Balogun has been plagued by injuries during the cause of the just concluded Bundesliga league season but managed to put together 13 games for Mainz mostly at the beginning of the season, while he made four appearances off the bench to total 17 matches for the entire season.
