Bayelsa Queens halt Rivers Angels unbeaten run

Rivers Angels suffered their first defeat of the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League season at the hands of South South rivals Bayelsa Queens in a Matchday 8 encounter decided at the Nembe City Stadium on Thursday.

Bayelsa Queens Captain, Joy Bokiri, first startled the visitors with an opening goal inside the first minute of action after taking advantage of a defensive error by Rivers Angels’ Gladys Akpa. The goal is Bokiri’s fourth of the current campaign and the fastest goal of the season.

Eight minutes into the second half, Osarenoma Igbinovia opened her goals account for the season to make it 2-0 in favour of the hosts.

In the other match played on Thursday, Stella Nwadike’s lone goal was all Adamawa Queens needed to pick all three points at home against Confluence Queens.
