Bayern Munich have confirmed that Croat Niko Kovac will be the club’s new manager from next season.
The decision was announced by Die Roten sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, which also confirms that Jupp Heynckes will head back to retirement.
There had been talk of whether or not Heynckes would stay on, with rumours of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge trying to convince the 72-year-old to stay, while there were also rumours of Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann and former Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel coming on board. But Kovac signs on a three-year contract, having joined from Frankfurt.
Kovac formerly played for and coached the Croatian national team, and has Frankfurt on the brink of Champions League football for next season.
