CAFCC: Enyimba can dream of a Quarter Final Spot, but Focus is the determinant.

By Chima Ebube

The people’s Elephant secured dramatic late win over Malian side Djoliba to keep tgeir hopes of a continental knock out face alive thanks to Farouk Mohammed’s 90th minute penalty coupled with shot stopper, Theophilus  Afelokhai heroics to ensure Enyimba are still in the competition.

The result meant Enyimba go level on point with CARA Brazzaville only to  be behind on goal’s difference.

Usman Abadallah, head coach of Enyimba have lot of work to do in the final group game of group C, which is a must win at all cost, for a draw might not see the Aba side through to the next round depending on the result elsewhere.

Enyimba would be hosting CARA Brazzaville in the newly built Aba township stadium on August 29, while Williamsville of Cote d’ivoire would be host Djoliba of Mali at home in a game Wiiliamsville must win in order to qualify for the next face of the competition.

A game Williamsville would fancy winning, having played a score draw in the first leg affair played in Mali on the 16th of May 2o18. Which leaves Enyimba with no other option but a victory for a draw might not see the Aba side through if Williamsville gets a victory against Djoliba in the other group game.

As it stands, the three sides are with the advantage of scaling through to the next round, Enyimba have a weaker goal difference with -1, while Williamsville have 0 and CARA Brazzaville with +3 respectively, therefore a WIN is all Enyimba needs to progress.

Group D is also tricky and dicey like group C, with three teams in position to qualify for the knockout stage.

Gor Mahia of Kenya and USM Alger of Algeria are on eight point with Gor Mahia top of the table on goal difference while Rayon Sports of Rwanda sits third on the table with six points and an outside chance of making it to the knockout face.

Final group game in group D sees Gor Mahia lock horns with USM Alger in Algeria in a game that would see who tops the group. Rayon Sport who have slim chance of qualifying would play Young Africans of Tanzania at home but they need to score plenty of goals to match USM Alger and Gol Mahia goal difference.

If Enyimba tops group C, its most likely they would be facing either USM Alger or Gol Mahia with the former not being a strange name to Nigerian sides.

But before the Aba side dreams of a next round fixture, let them concentrate on the task at hand and ensure they open the new stadium with a victory for the fans while also trying to revenge what the Congolese side did to them in the first leg which ended 3-1 in Congo.
