Rayon Sports welcome Two-time African champions Enyimba International to Stade de Kigali in today’s encounter with both teams competing for a semifinal ticket in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.

Enyimba finished top of Group C with 12 points while Rayon broke decades of jinx as the first Rwandan club side to reach the knock round of the CAF competition. Rayon finished second in Group D with 9 points.

Two years ago Stade de Kigali hosted 2019 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) games. Interestingly, Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team played two group games against Niger Republic and Tunisia at Stade de Kigali. Nigeria spanked Niger Republic 4-1 in the first game and played a 1-1 draw with Tunisia in the second game.

The duo of Enyimba current squad players; Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Ikechukwu Ibenegbu were part of Super Eagles team to the tournament in Rwanda. Ezenwa was the captain of the national team, he has also been listed for today’s club continental game while Ibenegbu was ruled out due to injury.

Ezenwa in a chat with Naijafootballplus.com in Kigali fond the memories of Stade de Kigali stadium in 2016 relating the hopes to today’s game against Rayon Sports.

“As we came into the stadium for our official training, I share the national team beautiful memories with my teammates. We had sweet moments at Stade de Kigali in 2016, we were unbeaten in two games. We defeated Niger Republic with a wide score line and played a 1-1 draw against Tunsia.

“Yes, we didn’t progress to the next round of the tournament but that didn’t happened at the Stade de Kigali, the stadium gave us amazing memories to build on as we are back here to represent Nigeria. We didn’t lose any game on this pitch and I’m hopeful we’ll carry on the momentum today.

“The training was hectic because of the hot weather, but we’ll manage that in the game. I have communicated how we can use the pitch to our advantage but it won’t be easy, there’s a bit of continuity in the Rayon team. Majority of them were part of the Rwanda team in 2016 and they reached the quarter-final of the tournament. We know we are up against a good team but we are capable of keeping our good records in Kigali intact.

“We appreciate the amazing support of everyone back home, we are asking for more today. It has been a long journey for the team which started from the preliminary rounds and the tough group games, we are getting closer to our target for the season and we can’t afford to slip off now. We have to make today’s count, we don’t want to wait for the return leg in Aba, we hope to get the job done in Kigali,” said Ezenwa to Naijafootballplus.com.

The game will kickoff 3pm Rwanda time (2pm Nigeria time).
