Enyimba fell at home for the first time in the continent this season as Raja Club Athletic secured a healthy 1-0 victory in Aba on a humid Wednesday.
The visitors started on the front foot pressing their hosts who looked scared on the ball but there was no clear cut chances for them.
Enyimba took the initiative after about a quarter of an hour and attacked the Moroccan eagles getting very close to an opener when Mustapha crossed a ball across the face of goal but Adetunji was beaten to it by Benoun. Enyimba had their own scare but … missed with the post begging
Both teams had to go into the break lucky not to have conceded but Raja turned up the heat two minutes into the second half when Hafidi converted a Rahimi pass.
Enyimba almost got respite when substitute, Alalade was upended in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Alwarfaly protested and was booked by the referee. The ensuing spot kick was wasted by Dimgba.
Enyimba pushed forward for an equalizer but met the Moroccans defense at every time. Afelokhai picked up an injury after a smart double save to keep the scoreline decent. His replacement, Ezenwa, also made saves of his own.
Enyimba had to see out the game and will travel to Casablanca with hope an upset.
