Midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is confident Akwa United will play in the group stage of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Akwa United will on Wednesday host Al Hilal in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs following a 2-0 loss in the first leg played in Sudan.
Despite the belief in lots of quarters that it is the end of the road for the Promise Keepers in the competition, Ifeanyi believes the team has prepared well enough for the tie to earn a place in the group stage.
“I have the belief because we’ve been working very hard,” Ifeanyi Ifeanyi told Naijafootballplus.com.
“Sometimes in football you don’t get your rhythm but the mindset of working really hard and never giving up will see us through and I believe we’ll do well in our home game and then we’ll qualify to the next stage.”
The midfielder admits it’s indeed been tough campaigning on two fronts but says the team will always give its best at all times despite any inconveniences.
“It is stressful, if you talk about the travelling. Sometimes you stay at the airport for some hours, like 8 hours. You just sit down there, there is no place to rest.
“It is not really easy playing at home and playing in the continent but we still give God the glory for the strength he has been giving us to face the challenges.”
Akwa United have never played in the group stage of the competition and will hope to overturn the 2-0 loss in front of what is expected to be a packed full Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday.
