Fast rising Nigerian international, Ikouwem Udoh, has attributed his recent rise to prominence to luck which he understands as preparedness meeting opportunity.
The Enyimba leftback, who was an understudy to Chima Akas, went on to replicate his predecessors exploits in the leftback role. That was just enough for him to be called up for the CHAN tournament.
Speaking to naijafootballplus.com, the light skinned defender expressed his excitement with the invitation to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
“I am so excited to receive the call up to the national experience and I am grateful to God for the opportunity and to my teammates for their support.” He said.
“It was just like a joke moving from street football to playing in the national team in a matter or months and I believe it was just my time to shine.
“I hope to represent my team[Enyimba] and the country well whenever I am called upon.” He added.
For those who are still playing at the amateur and semi-professional level, he had this to say: “Everyone who wishes to make progress in football must work hard, be dedicated, be focused and believe in himself/herself. Nothing is impossible.”
Ikouwem, who is now focused on getting back to the Enyimba FC starting XI, was grateful to everyone who helped him get to his current status.
“I will need to work harder so that I can reenter Enyimba’s starting lineup. I hope to play the next game.
“My gratitude to everyone who supported me. May God bless them all.” He concluded.
Ikouwem Udoh was part of the CHAN Eagles team that finished second in Morocco 2018. He was promoted from Enyimba feeders last season and had a good season which saw him invited by Salisu Yusuf to the CHAN squad.
