Despite their surge in the second half, Rivers United fell 1-3 to Club Africain in their first group stage fixture played in Tunis.

In a game which saw both teams awarded penalties and lots of chances, Ekine Moseph who’s live in Tunisia rates who starred and who flopped.

25. Sunday Rotimi (GK): Commanding in goal as always, repelling corner-kicks and crosses, although he was beaten by Club Africain’s first shot on target and couldn’t do much about both the penalty scored and the own goal conceded.
Player Rating: 6

30. Markson Ojobo (RB): Was left exposed on several occasions and appeared to be the weaklink in defense in the first half. Was lucky not to see red when he fouled after having been previously shown a red card. He did win the penalty missed by Emeka Ogbugh.
Player Rating: 5

6. Ayobami Asekunowo (CB): Looked particularly strong in the second half but could have done better closing down on Billel Iffa for the first goal.
Player Rating: 5

5. Joseph Douhadji (CB): Unlucky to have scored an own goal after a good performance where he kept Club Africain’s Rosicky quiet the whole game.
Player Rating: 5

14. Zoumana Doumbia (LB): Bar the unnecessary foul which led to the penalty scored by Club Africain, he was arguably Rivers United’s best defender on the day.
Player Rating: 6

13. Emeka Atuloma (DM): Often not seen in games, Atuloma had his hands full shackling Club Africain’s players foray forward and didn’t look out of his depth doing so.
Player Rating: 6

10. Ayo Saka (CM): Failed to find the final pass into the offensive third and also failed to score when well positioned to drag his team back into the game.
Player Rating: 5

4. Nzube Anaezemba (CM): Didn’t have a good game for a player of his standard, one of the reasons why he was hauled off early in the second half.
Player Rating: 4

11. Bolaji Sakin (LW): Saw a lot of the ball but made poor use of it. He was particularly liked by the Tunisian fans for his dribbling skills.
Player Rating: 5

26. Emeka Ogbugh (RW): Wasn’t influential on the right until he was switched to play behind the striker. Could have reduced the deficit on two occasions, first when 2-0 down and when trailing 3-1 he ballooned his spot-kick.
Player Rating: 5

32. John Odumegwu (ST): Looked a constant threat from start to finish and was rewarded early in the second half with a goal. For one new to the side and playing his first match on the continent he took the challenge like a duck to water, needs to time his runs though.
Player Rating: 7

Substitutes:
21. Onoriode Odah (LW): Came on for the ineffective Nzube Anaezemba and immediately stamped his authority on the right wing. In his first outing with the club he certainly showed promise.
Player Rating: 6

9. Guy Kuemian (ST): the Ivorian came on for the tiring Bolaji Sakin and had little impact on the game albeit having played in midfield for one used to creating havoc inside the eighteen-yard box.

Player Rating: 4
