Akwa United Coach, Abdu Maikaba is feeling upbeat ahead of his side’s CAF Confederation Cup clash with Al Littihad.
Akwa United in midweek takes on Al-Ittihad from Libya in the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup in Stade Taïeb Mhiri Sfax, Tunisia.
Speaking shortly before departing Nigeria for Tunisia, Maikaba informed that the Promise Keepers were quite ready for the task at hand as they had done their homework on their opponents.
“We’ve concluded plans for the first leg to be played in Tunisia.
“I have an idea of our opponents. I have seen their first and second leg against the Niger side (Sahel).
“They’re a very good side but we’ve formulated a strategy to make sure we get a decent result in Tunisia.”
Asked if he thought his side could get a good result away to Al lttihad the usually somber Maikaba was quite upbeat about Akwa’s chances of getting a victory in Tunisia.
“Yes of course I have the belief we can beat any side that will come our way in this competition.
“It depends on the reaction of the players. If the way we handled the Gambian side we can equally do the same this time around, I believe we would get a good result.”
Akwa United lost the first leg of the preliminary round to Gambia’s Hawks 1-2 at home but turned things around with a 0-2 victory in Gambia to progress to the current round 3-2 on aggregate.
The promise keepers will play Al lttihad at 17:00hrs (Gmt +1) on Wednesday.
