Confluence Queens missed out on a chance to go top of Group B as they were surprisingly beaten 0-1 by Delta Queens in a Nigeria Women Premier League Matchday 9 encounter d ecided at Confluence Stadium Lokoja, on Thursday.
Rosemary Okezie scored the only goal of the match as the visitors secured their first away win of the season.
With five more matches to the end of the regular season, the result has put a dent on Confluence Queens’ hopes of a place in the Super Four. In the latest Group B ranking, the New Direction Queens have dropped from 2nd to 4th while Delta Queens climbed to third.
Elsewhere at the Osogbo Stadium, Group leaders Nasarawa Amazons lost their second successive game to Osun Babes but maintained their position on the log.
Kesiena Ojiyowv’s 27th minute goal was what separated both sides at the end of the highly engaging affair and the 1-0 win has seen Osun Babes climb to second – the highest position they have occupied so far this season.
Reacting to the victory recorded on Thursday, Chief Coach of Osun Babes FC Liadi Bashiru said he believes the Omoluabi Babes will keep up the momentum in subsequent matches starting with their visit to Calabar.
“I thought it was really a strong performance from the girls. We need to recreate that with the same passion and desire, in our next game against Pelican Stars,” Bashiru told the club’s media.
“It’s so good we didn’t concede today, because I feel it’s so important to play without conceding and overall we played fantastically well and we will keep working hard to achieve our main aim.”
Osun Babes now have sixteen points, same as leaders Nasarawa Amazons it is goals difference that seperates them on the table.
