It wasn’t a suiting match day for Nigeria Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo, on Saturday as his Chinese Super League side Changchun Yatai fell 3-1 on the road to Shanghai SIPG FC.
Ighalo who is on 17 goals in the ongoing league posed a constant threat to the backline of the host, but two goals before half hour through Oscar Emboebar and Huikang Cai pegged him back.
Rui You, halved the scores before half time but Shanghai seized the play again on resumption of the second half.
Wenjun Lue put the game beyond Yatai in the 57th minute off an assist from Lei Wu.
Ighalo’s team were reduced to 10 men in the 90th minute as the centre referee gave Dadi Zhou a red card.
Yatai who are placed 7th, will have the opportunity to redeem their battered image next Saturday when they play host to Jiangsu Suning.
