The Nigeria’s Super Falcons survived the biggest scare at the ongoing invitational women tournament currently going on in Cyprus as they defeated hard fighting Slovakia at the Antonis Papadoupolus Stadium, Larnaca on Friday afternoon.
The African champions raced to a three-goal lead in the first half of the match with goals from Rita Chikwelu who netted brace in the 7th and 38th minute while defender Osinachi Ohale scored in between.
Slovakian ladies returned for the second stanza as the better side and it paid off as Jana Vojtekovic reduced the tally in the 67th minutes.
Lucia Harsanyova scored two penalties kicks in the 73rd and 78th minutes to level the game and increased the pace of the keenly contested game.
Forward Ana Imo restored Nigeria lead in the 82nd minutes off an assist from Asisat Oshoala and her goal earned Super Falcons their first victory in the tournament.
Nigeria will play their last group game against Belgium next Monday.
