Sunshine Stars head coach Duke Udi has declared that his side will be out to seek maximum points in Wednesday’s rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 9 meeting with MFM FC in Akure.
Udi who made the declaration while speaking ahead of the Southwest derby on Breez 91.9FM’s Sports Cruise on Tuesday, maintained victory against the Olukayo Boys will restore confidence and come handy in the team’s quest to regain momentum.
“Victories in our next two games will be a huge booster for us but we are thinking of just the next game now. We will be out to play for a win tomorrow though I know MFM are good side with a good coach in Fidelis Ilechukwu and playing in the CAF champions league gives experience and maturity,” Udi said to Breeze 91.9 FM
“They have good players that retain information during play and very efficient on the ball too, so we must deny them time and space. We respect them but not scared of any side as always and I can tell you my boys are ready and we know a win will restore confidence.”
Sunshine Stars have managed just one win in the last five matches, though the league form of the CAF champions league campaigners have been somewhat patchy. MFM’s dress rehearsal for the derby was not so perfect; a barren draw at home with Lobi Stars on Sunday.
Stephen Odey scored the only goal in this tie last season as the Olukoya Boys stunned Sunshine Stars in Akure. MFM completed the double in Agege with a 2-1 win in Udi’s first game in charge of Sunshine Stars in a season the Ilechukwu tutored side punched above their weight.
In the meantime, only seven of the newly recruited 14 Sunshine Stars’ players remain eligible to feature in the league owing to litigation issues that have not been fully resolved
