Sunshine Stars coach, Duke Udi has said his players must convert their chances if they must achieve their target this season.
After recording back-to-back away victories in the NPFL, Sunshine Stars were defeated 2-1 in their third time of asking by Wikki Tourists.
The Akure gunners took the lead through Najeem Nojare in the 13th minute before Wikki Tourists equalised through Idris Guda two minutes later. Jonathan scored from the spot in the second half after Sunshine Stars had been reduced to 10-men. Dayo Ojo was sent off in the tie for dissent.
Udi who spoke to naijafootballplus after the game, was left disappointed with the amount of chances wasted by his side.
“The boys again created numerous chances but we were unable to convert most of them”, Udi said.
“We will keep on working on our area of weaknesses, especially the act of converting our chances. Look at what happen today, so many glorious chances were wasted even with a man down in most part of the game but our opponent would also have their goalkeeper to thank for his brave and series of saves in goal. We shall continue to do our best to bring out the best in the team.
“Who knows if it would be goal differences that will save our heads when the season ends. That’s why we must start scoring as many goals as possible.”
Udi called on his players to show ‘fighting Spirit’ in their remaining matches starting in their next game against Akwa United.
“It’s a tough encounter because both teams came all out desperate to get the three points. We were not playing badly at all but the players must show their zeal, fighting spirit and be more proficient in front of goal to ensure that we achieve our season’s target. We must start that in our next game and the other games we have after then.
“We tried as much as possible to bring something positive out of the game. Maybe the red card did a lot of damage but the boys still kept the game even and gave Wikki a run for their money.”
Sunshine Stars are 12th on the league standings with 42 points after 32 games and will host Akwa United in their next game at Otunba Dipo Dina stadium Ijebu-Ode.
