An epoch making encounter took centre stage between Port Harcourt’s finest side, SKE FC and Obingwa FC in the 2017 Pipul TV Nationwide League, Division Two. It was the first home game for SKE Football Club, since it’s inception in 2014.
The host did savour the auspicious moment as they ran out victorious against their visitors in the matchday three league fixture. Attacking midfielder Court Ebibowei, strucked a wonderful curler in the 48th minute to ensure his side pipped their opponents by a lone goal.
SKE dominated the early stages of the game as the duo of Anthony Obia and Court Ebibowei threatened their opponents with their pace and fluidity in the final third.
Attacking Midfielder, Court Ebibowei had a decent opportunity to open scoring in the 27th minute when his left-footed shot sailed wide for a goal kick. Moments later Anthony Obia saw his ferocious strike clattered across the bar.
Towards the stroke of half-time, midfield sensation Joe Chris dispatched a menacing ball into the flanks to find Eddy Clement. The latter skipped past his marker before he was hauled down to gift his side the chance to get the opener. Unfortunately, Kimi Jeremiah couldn’t open scoring for his side from the spot as his resultant spot kick clattered the bar.
At the restart, the host opened scoring when substitute Afonime Atoabasi, schemed on the right wing to lay a defense splitting pass to Ebibowei on the edge of the box. Ebibowei, an excellent dribbler, skipped brilliantly past his marker before he took a fierce,
rising shot into the back of the net in the 48th minute.
The goal paved way for SKE FC to dictate proceedings in the middle of the park. Striker, Anthony Obia pierced through two defenders of Obingwa FC, before he unleashed a shot that strucked the bar in the 87th minute.
The Port Harcourt based side were able to withstand the late pressure as they ran out victorious. A delighted Coach Ikechukwu pumped his fists towards the skies at the blast of the final whistle to express his satisfaction at the post-match press conference.
” I’m so delighted that my players defeated their opponents despite the fact that we missed lot’s of goal scoring chances.” said a delighted gaffer.
The Coach also reacted to his side’s profligacy in front of goal.
” We’ll work towards ensuring that we up our game in terms of converting our chances because it’s going to be pivotal in our next league game.” said Ikechukwu
