Rivers United chief coach, Willy Udube believes the Pride of Rivers are slowly regaining their confidence after recording a second consecutive victory against Abia Warriors courtesy of an Emeka Ogbugh 32nd minute penalty.
After being knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Al Merriekh in the round of 32, United went four matches without a win in the Nigeria Professional Football League before last Thursday’s 2-0 win against ABS FC.
Udube who directed proceedings for Rivers United from the dugout as a result of Technical Manager, Stanley Eguma’s absence due to illness said after the 1-0 narrow win over Abia Warriors that the back-to-back wins recorded by United in the NPFL has built back players confidence.
“Our exit from the CAF Champions League after losing 4-0 to Al-Merriekh in Sudan killed the confidence of the team which resulted in 2 away defeats and a home draw. The confidence of my players was completely low, but I’m happy now that we’ve gotten two home victories which has built back our confidence”
Coach Willy is however confident that the team is in top shape after finding their rhythm ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup game against Rayon Sports of Uganda next weekend in Port Harcourt and that an outright victory with scincilating performance will be on show as a present to the fans to appease them for the troubled times the club has had.
