Two-time Africa Champions League winners Enyimba International are close to announcing coach Paul Aigbogun as their new coach on a one year contract, Naijafootballplus.com exclusively gathered.
The former Warrior Wolves coach who arrived in Nigeria last weekend from the United Kingdom has reached an agreement with Enyimba management to become the People’s Elephants coach ahead of next season.
Aigbogun, who has been shortlisted for the Nigeria National U20 job will take over Enyimba’s managerial role vacated by Gbenga Ogunbote who has joined Rangers International. He spent the last one year as a scout with Glasgow Rangers.
Enyimba will resume camping and kickoff pre-season in Ekiti State on Friday. The Seven-time NPFL champions will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
Aigbogun is making a third return to Enyimba. He previously worked with Salisu Yusuf as assistant coach in 2013. He left Aba and worked at Warri Wolves for two years before he returned to Enyimba as head coach in 2016. He took the People’s Elephant to CAF Champions League group stages and semi-final stages of the Federation Cup in the same year.
“He (Aigbogun) has signed. It is a done deal for Enyimba, he will be unveil in the coming days. We will also resume preseason in Ekiti on Friday and the coach will be presented to the players,” revealed a top official of the club.
Naijafootballplus.com exclusive scooped that the club have contacted former FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Ghanaian coach, Yaw Preko. Former Remo Stars coach, Nduka Ugbade and former Kwara United coach, Samson Unuanel have also been shortlisted.
“We are playing on the continent and we want to make a big impact next season. The last with Aigbogun we got to the group stages, we want to surpass that achievement and edge close to the last four. We need to set up a sound technical crew that will compete with others on the continent,” the source revealed.
