Rivers United second assistant coach Boma Joseph has expressed happiness over the club’s 2-1 victory over Enyimba on Matchday 35 in Port Harcourt.
Goals from Bernard Ovoke from a free-kick and Abdoulaye Kanoute ensured victory for Rivers United despite Enyimba scoring through Koffi Atchou’s header.
The victory moved the Pride of Rivers to 11th position from 14th on the log and eases their relegation fears.
When asked if the victory takes pressure off the technical crew and the players, after Chief Coach Willy Udube had previously stated that his side was under pressure, Joseph admitted that the victory definitely helped lift pressure from them while reacting to a question during an interview.
“Definitely it took away pressure from us. We won away to Remo stars and consolidating that victory with a win over Enyimba takes away pressure from both the players and the technical crew and we hope we translate this performance to subsequent matches.
On what promise they can give to the owners and fans of the club with 3 games to go, he assured them Rivers United won’t get relegated.
Joseph added: “What we are promising the owners and the fans of the team is that we are still hoping to get another point away, come home and win our remaining match to ensure our safety and then think about next season on how to rebuild.”
Rivers United will travel to Jos on Matchday 36 to face league leaders Plateau United at the Rwang Pam stadium.
