Assistant Coach of Enyimba FC, Usman Abdalla has expressed joy over his side’s victory against Mountain of Fire Football Club of Lagos in a rescheduled matchday 11 fixture played on Wednesday, assuring that the win will be a morale booster going into the CAF Confederation Cup in April.
The People’s Elephant secured a 2-0 home win at the U.J Esuene Stadium Calabar at the expense of the Olukoya boys who have won six games and lost six this season.
The four previous times both clubs met ended in draws until the Aba Boys broke the jinx having secured just a point at Yobe Desert Stars the previous matchday.
Coach Abdalla said he is not surprised that his side got the win which will help prepare his men for the challenge ahead.
“Actually this game is all about preparation for the CAF Championship that we are preparing for, so we are building our team on that and this victory comes as a plus for us even though we have expected the victory this week,” Abdalla said post match.
Enyimba defender Isiaka Oladuntoye was shown a red card in the second half of the encounter, a decision the coach said was justified and counted as an advantage to his team.
“It’s a red card because he (Isiaka Oladuntoye) didn’t go for the ball so I think it’s a deserved red card, this is fair.
“Yes normally you see sometimes its hard luck, but in the second half you can see, in football, when you have a numeric disadvantage, it counts for you so we have to see how we can arrange the team so that we can balance the game.
“I mean instead of going back, we have to attack so atleast to reduce the pressure on us.”
The win moved Enyimba to 5th place on the log with 21 points and they still have a game in hand.
The People’s Elephant will be in action in the CAF Confederation Cup play offs round in April and they’ll face Bidvest Wits of South Africa.
