Remo Stars forward, Dufegha Eric has said to Naijafootballplus.com that the Sky Blues’ hard work and resilience paid off in the NPFL Matchday 17 clash against Katsina United on Sunday.
Remo Stars defeated Katsina United 1-0 in the battle of the newly promoted sides at the Gateway International Stadium at the weekend.
Eric came on from the bench and scored a late winner for his team to break a solid performance from Katsina United defenders and goalkeeper Dami Paul.
Eric said the Sky Blues were the better side, having dominated the encounter and created lots of scoring chances.
“After the positive result at Rangers we knew it is important for us to compliment the result with a win against Katsina United. We prepared for a big battle because they (Katsina) have got a decent team.
“It was difficult for us to break them down, they were solid at the back and their goalkeeper was massive. We deserved to win, we dominated the game and created scoring chances. We could have scored more than one but we must give credit to Katsina.
“The coach instructed me to study the game from the bench and we discussed their weakness. We got to take advantage of some holes created in their defence. The pep talk from the coach motivated me, he told me the winner hangs on me. I am fresh and could run the defence with my energy, he talk about my position against lose balls.
“I am happy to score the winning goal, kudos to my teammate’s, the build up to the goal was great. The victory is important for the team, we are gradually pushing up on the log and we hope to remain focused,” said Eric.
Remo Stars are unbeaten in their last four matches, they have won three and drawn one – at Rangers. The victory at the weekend moved the Sky Blue to 14th on the NPFL table with 19 points from 16 matches.
