Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti is confident his Gent FC team will emerge champions of Belgium ahead of the playoffs starting Sunday.
Esiti has been instrumental for Gent who put together an 11 match unbeaten run to make into a playoff position.
The Super Eagles hopeful who is also drawing attention of top European clubs also acknowledges tough challenges lie ahead of his club’s ambition of winning the Belgian league title.
“There are several teams capable of winning the title and there could be another surprise this season just like we won it in 2014/15 season,” Esiti said.
“Considering our run of form, it’s important that we don’t become complacent, and that we do our job and stay professional.
“I don’t think a lot of people expected us to get into the playoffs.
“We are just going to keep taking each game as it comes, not worry about the title too much and carry on with what we’ve been doing, and hopefully we will win it at the end of the season.”
Esiti have for company a trio of other Nigerians in the Gent team aspiring to end the season on a high. William Troost Ekong, Simon Moses and Rabiu Ibrahim are all under the books of Gent.
