Euro Round Up: Onyekuru fires brace, one each for Etebo and Onovo


Action resumed in Europe after a week long break of international football, and Nigerian players started the weekend with a bang.

First up is Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, who scored the
equalizer for his Portuguese side Feirense FC in the 80th minute as they battled from two second half goals from their more accomplished rivals Sporting Lisbon before succumbing to a late Bast Dost penalty to lose 2-3 at home.

Etebo was subbed off in the 90th minute before Feirense conceded a late penalty with seven minutes of added time.

It will be recalled that Etebo was a second half substitute for Nigeria in their 1-1 World Cup qualifiers Match day 4 draw against Cameroon.

In Belgium, Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru finally opened his goal account
for Belgium giants Anderlect, with just 3 minutes into kickoff in their 3-2 home win against Lokereen.

Down by 1-2 In the second half, Onyekuru was yellow carded in the 56th minute before grabbing his second goal and the equalizer in the 77th minute before his teammate Lukasz Teodorczyk hit the winner late on.

Former super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh, guarded his Dutch second division side Fortuna Sittard to a valuable 0-0 draw away to ten men FC Emmen.

In Russia, Super Eagles forward Aaron Samuel was an unused substitute as
his CSKA Moscow team defeated hard fighting Amkar 1- 0 away from home.

Amkar Fc featured Nigerian defender Brain Idowu who was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the space of 6 minutes (84th and 90th minute).

In the English championship, on loan Chelsea and Nigerian defender Ola Aina
was dazed alongside his Hull City teammates as Derby County walloped them
by 5-0 .

In Finland, the Nigerian duo of Gabriel Reuben and Gbolahun Salami started
for KUPS Fc in their 2-1 win over SJK Fc.

While Gabriel finished the match, former Warri wolves striker Gbolahun Salami was subbed off with 9 minutes remaining.

Still in Finland, Vincent Onovo opened scores in the 11th minute for 10 men HJK FC in their 3-0 away win over VPS Fc before he was subbed off in the 57th minute.

Meanwhile his teammate Friday Obilor lasted the entire duration of the match.
