After an action packed weekend of footballing action, NaijafootballPlus.com takes another look at games involving Nigerian players on Sunday.
Nigerian central attacking midfielder Joel Obi, was in sublime form for Torino in the Serie A after he scored in the 26th minute against Sassuolo.
Unfortunately the host equalized in the second half to deny Obi, who is highly tipped to make a return for the Super Eagles in the World Cup. It ended Sassuolo 1-1 Torino.
Striker Umar Sadiq was an unused substitute for Torino, where he is on loan
Young Nigerian super sub striker Orji Okonkwo, was not required on the field
for Bologna who eased to a 3-0 win over Benevento.
Another Nigerian striker Simmy Nwankwo. was an unused substitute in Crotone’s 3-0 win away to Hellas Verona.
Super Eagles defender William Ekong and midfielder Mikel Agu, were on for
the entire duration of the match for Bursaspor, who were soundly beaten 0-3
by visiting Istanbul Basaksehir.
Super Eagles assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi, was on for Trabzonspor until
the 80th minute when he was subbed off in a 2-2 draw against Konyaspor, with both
teams finishing with ten men after getting red cards.
NETHERLANDS – Eredivisie
Forward Fred Friday, was on up until the 82nd minute when he was recalled to
the bench by Sparta Rotterdam who eventually conceded a late goal to lose
2-3 to Excelsior.
BELGIUM – 1ST Division
Striker Denis Bonaventure, came on to replace Wesley in the 64th minute and
eventually helped Club Brugge come back from two goals down to draw 2-2 away to Royal Antwerp.
Bonaventure however did not find the back of the net.
Non amongst the Nigerian trio of winger Moses Simon (injured), Samuel Kalu and Midfielder Anderson Esiti were in the Gent match day squad that beat Lokeren by 3-0.
Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, was not listed in the Feirense squad that won 1-0 at home to Moreirense.
